President Trump Criticizes Democratic Policies After NYC Park Shooting

President Trump sharply condemned Democratic sanctuary city policies following a violent incident in Manhattan, where an off-duty Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer was shot in the face by an illegal migrant during an attempted robbery.

The suspect, identified as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a 21-year-old with a lengthy criminal record and a deportation order, had entered the U.S. illegally in April 2023. Despite being apprehended at the border and issued a removal order, he was released under the Biden administration’s policies, which Trump claims allowed criminals like him to remain in the country.

The incident occurred while the officer and a female companion were sitting near the Hudson River in Fort Washington Park. They were ambushed by two suspects on a moped. During a brief struggle, one of the suspects opened fire, hitting the officer in the face and arm. The officer responded by returning fire, hitting one of the suspects, who was later taken into custody after seeking treatment at a Bronx hospital. The officer is expected to survive.

Mora Nunez, who entered the country illegally and was released despite a deportation order, was connected to the attack by authorities. He has been previously arrested multiple times in New York City but was released without bail each time. The incident underscores concerns over the impact of sanctuary laws, which prevented Mora Nunez from being deported or handed over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, even after the arrest and deportation order.

The suspect in the robbery remains at large. Mora Nunez is also wanted in Massachusetts for kidnapping and weapons charges.

Trump criticized the policies, stating, “The Democrats have flooded our Nation with Criminal Invaders, and now, they must all be removed or prosecuted immediately, as they pose a severe threat to public safety.”
