SpaceX Cancels Satellite Launch Just Minutes Before Liftoff
Initially scheduled to launch a Falcon 9 rocket carrying two SES O3b mPOWER internet satellites from Cape Canaveral, the mission was unexpectedly scrubbed less than 15 seconds before takeoff. The launch was set for 5:27 p.m. EDT, but SpaceX announced an abort occurred 11 seconds prior to liftoff.
The company initially considered proceeding within a 90-minute window but ultimately decided to delay the mission for the day. A specific cause for the abort has not yet been disclosed. SpaceX confirmed that both the rocket and payload remained in good condition.
The next opportunity to launch is scheduled for the following day, with a window opening at 5:12 p.m. EDT. The company will stream the launch live via its website and social media channels, starting approximately 15 minutes before the scheduled lift-off.
The SES O3b mPOWER constellation consists of eight mid-Earth orbit satellites, all launched by SpaceX to date. While operational now, the network aims to grow to include a total of 13 spacecraft to provide enhanced global internet coverage.
