Democracy Wins: John Brennan Stands Up to Trump Threats
Former Intelligence Officials Defend Russia Interference Assessment
In the face of attempts by an incoming administration to alter historical narratives through intimidation, former officials emphasize the importance of standing firm. Among them, ex-CIA Director John Brennan has been singled out for a DOJ referral alongside three other intelligence veterans. They are accused of drafting and endorsing reports that linked Russia to meddling in the 2016 presidential election in favor of Donald Trump.
On MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, Brennan strongly defended the integrity of the intelligence community’s assessment. He stated:
“Anyone reviewing the assessment will see it was carefully crafted, thoroughly researched, and still holds up. Multiple reviews confirm that it did not misrepresent the facts—despite claims to the contrary.”
Brennan explained that the intelligence accurately outlined Russian efforts, under President Putin’s direction, to influence U.S. politics by undermining Hillary Clinton’s campaign, boosting Trump’s prospects, and destabilizing the electoral process.
“The primary conclusions remain valid: Russia engaged in influence operations aimed at interfering with our election and undermining confidence in our democratic system. I, along with my colleagues, stand by those assessments.”
He also touched on the context behind Tulsi Gabbard’s recent release of a related memo, though the details of his perspective are not elaborated here.
