UK ex-police officer Brian McManus guilty of wife’s brutal murder over double life in Georgia
Ex-Police Officer Convicted of Wife’s Murder in Georgia
An ex-police officer from the UK has been found guilty of murdering his wife in Georgia following revelations of an affair that threatened to expose his fraudulent immigration status.
Brian McManus, 57, a former London police officer, was convicted of killing his 63-year-old wife, Lucille Ann McManus, in 2023. The Houston County District Attorney’s Office announced the verdict, stating that McManus had tried to cover up the crime and shift blame onto his wife’s family, but was ultimately unsuccessful.
Authorities responded to a report of a supposed suicide at the couple’s home in Warner Robins in November 2023. Upon investigation, police discovered Lucille’s body with a head wound. She was found unclothed, and evidence indicated she was strangled after being struck with an object as she exited the shower. Authorities also found a rubber mallet and her cell phone near a drainage ditch.
The investigation revealed McManus had an affair with a woman in Florida, and his wife threatened to expose their marriage as a sham—primarily arranged to help him obtain a U.S. green card. Cell phone data contradicted McManus’s account that he returned home to find his wife dead, and security footage placed him near the crime scene. He also attempted to falsely blame his wife’s granddaughter and her boyfriend, but their alibis were confirmed through cell phone location data.
Prosecutors accused McManus of exploiting his wife’s loneliness and manipulating her into a marriage that served his immigration goals. They described him as a manipulative con artist who, when caught, resorted to violence. The DA’s office described the murder as calculated and brutal, emphasizing his history of abuse, including previous domestic violence and allegations of sexually threatening behavior that led to his dismissal from the London police.
Multiple witnesses described the marriage as a sham designed to exploit the immigration system. McManus’s actions reflect a disregard for his spouse’s life, prosecutors said, and he now faces justice for his crimes.
As the community pushes for greater efforts to prevent family violence, officials highlight this case as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by vulnerable individuals. The DA’s office reaffirmed their commitment to prosecuting such crimes and protecting victims.
