Rio Ferdinand Reacts to Rashford’s Loan Move to Barcelona
Rio Ferdinand Shares His Thoughts on Marcus Rashford’s Possible Loan to Barcelona
Retired Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has expressed his views regarding Marcus Rashford’s upcoming loan move to Barcelona, which is reportedly agreed upon in principle for the upcoming season. The deal includes an option for the Spanish club to sign Rashford permanently next summer.
Rashford’s move comes amid a period where his status at Manchester United has been uncertain. Under recent management changes, he was sidelined and eventually loaned out to Aston Villa last season, where he made 17 appearances, scoring four goals and providing six assists. His contract with United runs until 2028, with the move to Barcelona covering his £315,000 weekly wages.
Ferdinand speculated that there might be more happening behind the scenes than publicly known. During a discussion on his YouTube channel, he questioned whether lack of form, confidence, mismanagement, injuries, or personal issues might have influenced Rashford’s decision to leave.
“There must be something going on that we’re not aware of,” Ferdinand said. “Is it about his confidence, injuries, his desire? Or are there deeper issues with the club’s management?”
Notably, Rashford has been absent from Manchester United’s pre-season training at Carrington, joined only by other squad members like Sancho and Garnacho, and has already relinquished his No.10 shirt, which was given to new signing Matheus Cunha.
The England international has been a key player for United, scoring 138 goals and providing 77 assists over 426 appearances, winning several domestic trophies and a Europa League title.
Meanwhile, Barcelona has made new signings such as winger Roony Bardghji and goalkeeper Joan Garcia, and is Vlooking to strengthen their attack with a left-sided winger, following the departure of Nico Williams to a new contract with Athletic Bilbao.
