Border Patrol Agent S:ho:t in Face During NYC Park Robbery, Wounds Attacker

Border Patrol Agent Wounded in NYC Park During Robbery Attempt

An off-duty federal agent was attacked and shot in the face during an attempted robbery in a Manhattan park. The incident occurred along the Hudson River in Fort Washington Park around 11:50 p.m., when two suspects on a moped approached the agent and his female companion.

Following a brief struggle, one of the suspects fired a gun, hitting the agent in the face and the left forearm. The agent fought back, drawing his own firearm and firing multiple shots, ultimately wounding one of the assailants. The suspect was taken into custody at a Bronx hospital after walking in for treatment. The agent is currently undergoing surgery but remains in stable condition.

The second suspect remains at large. Police identified him as Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, a 21-year-old Dominican national with a prior criminal record in New York and a deportation order. Mora entered the U.S. illegally via the southern border in April 2023 under the Biden administration, but was released multiple times despite his record, due to border detention capacity issues.

Authorities say Mora was wanted on kidnapping and weapons charges out of Massachusetts at the time of the shooting, and had previously been arrested in New York City multiple times for various offenses, including assault and threats, but was released each time without bail.

This incident underscores ongoing challenges related to border security and criminal recidivism among repeat offenders.
