VOA Employee Threatens Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Family
Former Voice of America Employee Arrested for Threatening a Congresswoman
A 64-year-old man, Seth Jason, who previously worked as a volunteer reserve officer and was employed at Voice of America (VOA) since 2001, was taken into custody after allegedly making threatening phone calls to U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. The calls, made between October 2023 and January 2024, included violent threats against Greene, her staff, and their families.
Prosecutors revealed that Jason made at least eight threatening calls from VOA facilities, during which he vowed to shoot Greene “between the eyes” with an AK-47, saying, “We’re coming after you and your staff, and we are locked and loaded. We’re going to take you all out,” and “You’re going to get one between the eyes. Bam, bam, bam.”
The calls originated from various phone lines connected to VOA studios and control rooms, authorities confirmed. Jason was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police and the Anne Arundel County Police Department, where he had been a volunteer reserve officer until his recent suspension. The department stated that Jason was no longer affiliated with them.
In March, President Trump ordered the shutdown of VOA, criticizing it as “The Voice of Radical America.” Jason’s employment history indicates he joined VOA in 2001, prior to the broadcaster’s closure.
Legal Consequences
Jason now faces four federal charges, including influencing a federal official by threat, threatening a family member, interstate threats to kidnap or injure, and harassment via anonymous telecommunications. If convicted on all charges, he potentially faces up to 27 years in prison.
“Threatening a public official triggers serious legal repercussions,” said Interim U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, emphasizing that law enforcement will enforce justice without leniency.
The VOA has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the incident.
