Tottenham Told to Pay Cut-Price Fee for Bayern Star Who Cost £48m Last Summer
Tottenham Consider Signing Bayern Munich Midfielder at Reduced Fee
Tottenham are exploring the possibility of signing Bayern Munich’s Joao Palhinha for a significantly lower price, following the Portuguese midfielder’s recent struggles at the German club.
The club is aiming to strengthen its midfield after an underwhelming season domestically, despite achieving success in the Europa League. The recent departure of head coach Ange Postecoglou, replaced by Thomas Frank from Brentford, signals a shift in club strategy.
Bild reports that Spurs have registered interest in Palhinha, and negotiations could see Bayern accept an offer around £26 million, a notable discount from the £48 million paid for him last summer.
Palhinha moved to Bayern from Sporting Lisbon for about £48 million but faced a difficult debut Bundesliga campaign, starting only seven league matches and suffering injuries that kept him out for over two months. During his 17 appearances, he did not record a goal or assist.
Bayern, who are open to selling, previously had discussions with Arsenal earlier this summer, but no agreement was reached. Other clubs in Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Portugal are also reportedly interested in acquiring the 30-year-old.
Despite the limited impact at Bayern, Palhinha remains committed to succeeding at Munich and is only considering offers from top clubs. Bayern’s crowded midfield options—including Leon Goretzka, Aleks Pavlovic, Tom Bischof, and Konrad Laimer—could further limit his game time next season.
Fulham has also shown interest in re-signing Palhinha, who scored eight goals in 79 appearances for the Cottagers after joining in 2022. His move to Bayern in 2023 ultimately fell through on deadline day, but Bayern managed to acquire him a year later.
