Oldham Striker’s Ibiza Brawl: Fans Back Him with New Chant in First Match
Oldham’s Kian Harratt Celebrates Supporters’ Friendly Chant Despite Ibiza Brawl Controversy
During a recent pre-season match, Oldham Athletic striker Kian Harratt was seen engaging positively with fans, waving and smiling as supporters greeted him with a chant that humorously referenced an incident at an Ibiza resort last month. The chant made light of Harratt’s involvement in a brawl where he was seen throwing a chair at a woman.
The incident occurred during a poolside altercation in Ibiza, where Harratt was filmed launching furniture towards a woman trying to break up a fight. The woman was left lying motionless on the ground as bystanders attended to her. Harratt later claimed that he “accidentally hit” her after throwing a chair that had been first lobbed towards him. He expressed remorse but also suggested the woman went “down a bit easy,” stating he didn’t want his friends to get hurt while he was enjoying his holiday.
Harratt indicated that the fight started after his friends responded to a bully who was making others uncomfortable at the pool. He described the situation as heightened by the aggression of a physically imposing individual.
The 23-year-old, who scored the decisive goal at Wembley to secure Oldham’s promotion to League Two last season, has had previous legal issues. In 2022, he was fined for poaching in North Yorkshire after police found him with equipment while trespassing on private land. Harratt was also banned from football for four months during the 2023-24 season while at Huddersfield Town for betting on matches, which he insisted were not during his squad participation.
Despite the controversy, Harratt’s relationship with fans remains supportive, as they have begun chanting in his favor, making light of the incident with humorous lyrics. Harratt acknowledged the supporters’ warmth and responded with smiles and applause during the match.
