Long Island Man, 61, Gets Sucked Into MRI Machine While Wearing Large Chain
Man in Critical Condition After Being Drawn Into MRI Machine on Long Island
A 61-year-old man is fighting for his life after an incident at a Long Island MRI facility. The man, who has not been publicly identified, was wearing a large metal necklace when he entered an active MRI scan at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury. The powerful magnetic field pulled him into the machine, causing a medical emergency.
The incident happened on a Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say the man was not authorized to be in the MRI room, yet he entered while a scan was ongoing. He experienced a severe medical episode after being forcibly pulled into the machine.
Following the incident, bystanders called emergency services. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition with injuries that have not been disclosed.
MRI machines operate using intense magnetic fields, which is why patients are required to remove any metallic objects, including jewelry. The circumstances that allowed him to access the room during the scan are still under investigation.
