In a post on social media, CBP sharply criticized the individual, stating, “Nice shirt! But it doesn’t erase the fact that you entered the country illegally.”
The unidentified migrant, who has a criminal record including multiple DUI charges and a previous assault arrest, was apprehended at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. CBP shared a photo of him wearing patriotic attire during his arrest, emphasizing that criminal illegal aliens have no place in the United States.
The agency’s tweet underscored its stance that those with criminal backgrounds and illegal status should not be in the country, reinforcing ongoing immigration enforcement efforts.
Meanwhile, acting ICE director Tom Homan, a New York native, has called for an increase in apprehensions of criminal illegal aliens, proposing to raise daily arrests to 7,000, more than doubling current figures. Efforts to bolster immigration enforcement come amid administration moves to streamline visa programs for migrant workers to support sectors like agriculture and hospitality.
Officials maintain that increased enforcement measures do not constitute amnesty, with a senior Trump administration official affirming, “This is not amnesty. It’s not amnesty lite. No one who is illegally here is being given a pathway to citizenship or residency.”
