Gavin Adcock, a country artist dedicated to authentic country music, publicly expressed his disagreement with Beyoncé’s recent genre crossover. Despite Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning album Cowboy Carter receiving acclaim, Adcock argued it doesn’t represent true country music.

The singer voiced his opinions during a performance, which drew significant backlash from Beyoncé fans. Rather than retract his statements, Adcock remained steadfast and announced his intention to showcase what he considers “real country music” with his upcoming single, “Sunset.”

Recently, Adcock posted a video on Instagram from his bed, sharing that a dream had inspired him. In the clip, he said, “Last night, I was thinking about all the folks who don’t know what authentic country music sounds like, so I’m dropping a new song this Friday.”

Adcock Criticizes ‘Cowboy Carter’ as Not Being True Country

The tension escalated when Adcock revealed his own album, Own Worst Enemy, held the fourth spot on Apple’s Country Albums chart, behind Cowboy Carter. During a concert, he publicly stated, “There are only three artists ahead of me on the chart, and one of them is Beyoncé. Tell her we’re coming for her.” He added, “That’s not country music, and it never really was.”

Despite his criticism, Adcock clarified he doesn’t harbor personal ill will towards Beyoncé, recalling, “As a kid, my mom played her music a lot. I remember her Super Bowl halftime show being pretty impressive. But I don’t believe her album belongs in the country genre because it doesn’t sound like it.”

determined to prove his point, Adcock plans to release “Sunset” to demonstrate genuine country music to his fans, emphasizing his commitment to authentic roots in the genre.
