Dreadlocked Bandit Steals Subway Train in Queens for a One-Stop Joyride

Female Suspect Steals and Rides Subway Train in Queens

An unidentified woman with long red dreadlocks reportedly hijacked a parked subway train in Queens early Thursday morning. She took the train on a short one-stop ride from the Broadway station in Astoria before fleeing the scene.

Authorities say the woman entered the station around 4 a.m., gaining access to the N train while it was on the lay-up track. Surveillance footage shows her entering the train through the conductor’s cab, indicating she may have used a key to start the vehicle.

The female suspect then drove the train to the 36th Avenue station, where she abandoned the empty car and escaped before police arrived around 4:30 a.m. She remains at large.

Law enforcement sources revealed that the suspect matches the description of a woman previously arrested for a similar incident a few months ago. It is believed she may have used a key to operate the train during this latest incident.

Police said the woman took the train on a brief joyride.

Last year, two teenagers— a girl in a pink bonnet and a boy— were caught after taking an empty train for a short unauthorized ride from Briarwood station. The investigation into Thursday’s stunt is ongoing.
