Country legend Dolly Parton has temporarily put her musical pursuits on hold as she grapples with the grief of losing her husband, Carl Dean, who passed away recently.
In a candid interview, she revealed that her emotional state has hindered her ability to write new songs, despite having many inspiring ideas. “I want to start new projects, but I can’t quite do it yet,” she shared. “The pain is too fresh, and I just can’t bring myself to finish what I’ve begun.”
Having lost Dean in March at age 82, Parton explained that she’s choosing to pause her creative work to focus on her healing process. “I’m waiting until I feel ready, when the time is right,” she said.
She emphasized her deep connection with her husband, whom she met in 1964 at a Nashville laundromat and married two years later. “Our marriage lasted almost 60 years because we valued our privacy,” she explained. “He was a private person, not involved in the music scene, preferring the farm and his solitude.”
Despite their differing personalities—she being a performer, he a reserved farmer—Parton asserted their bond was built on a profound compatibility. “We were so different yet so alike, and that made us work,” she shared. Their enduring love even inspired her iconic hit “Jolene.”
In her tribute to Dean, Parton reflected on the depth of their relationship and expressed gratitude for the years they shared. “Words can’t fully describe the love we had. Thank you for your prayers and support during this difficult time.”
