Besiktas Cancels Walker-Peters Transfer; Defender Set for Premier League Move
Besiktas Withdraws from Transfer of Kyle Walker-Peters and Issues Official Statement
Besiktas has unexpectedly backed out of a planned move for defender Kyle Walker-Peters. The player, who left Southampton this summer and is now a free agent, was widely expected to join the Turkish club managed by former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Walker-Peters had traveled to Istanbul for a medical examination, but he requested to delay the transfer, prompting frustration from Besiktas. The club released an official statement condemning the decision:
“It is publicly known that the transfer of Kyle Walker-Peters, with whom we previously agreed in principle and invited for a medical, has been postponed. Today, Walker-Peters notified us that he needs more time. As a result, the club has withdrawn its offer.”
Despite this setback, the player is now linked with a move to West Ham, who are seeking a replacement for Vladimir Coufal. If the transfer to West Ham materializes, Walker-Peters would serve as an alternative to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Walker-Peters started his career at Tottenham before joining Southampton initially on loan in January 2020, later making the move permanent. During his tenure at Southampton, he made over 200 appearances and earned two senior caps for England in 2022.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took charge of Besiktas in January and has guided the team to 12 wins, four draws, and six losses in 22 matches so far. The club recently signed striker Tammy Abraham on loan from Roma and also brought in midfielder Joao Mario, previously on loan at West Ham in 2018.
Besiktas has canceled its transfer plan for Kyle Walker-Peters.
Team management was displeased with Walker-Peters’ request to postpone the transfer.
