Darwin Nunez’s Napoli Move Called Off as Liverpool Eyes Record Bid for Alexander Isak

Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez Deal Called Off as Napoli Turns Focus to Other Targets

Napoli has decided not to proceed with signing Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez due to a significant difference in valuation expectations. The 26-year-old Uruguayan forward, who joined Liverpool from Benfica for £85 million in 2022, is increasingly seen as likely to leave Anfield, with interests from multiple European and Saudi clubs.

Initially, Napoli was considered a leading candidate, offering around £47.5 million to acquire Nunez. The Italian champions had been negotiating a lower-cost transfer deal, aiming to bring him to Naples after a successful title-winning season with Liverpool, where he played a limited role, scoring only five goals and providing three assists.

However, recent reports suggest that Napoli has pulled out of the race, with their focus now shifting elsewhere. Instead, they have settled on a loan agreement to sign Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca, with an option to buy at season’s end. Meanwhile, Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia is now considered the frontrunner to acquire Nunez, who remains eager to leave.

Liverpool, meanwhile, is preparing for potential replacements. The club is reportedly eyeing Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, ready to shatter their transfer record again to secure the Swedish international, whose recent form saw him net 23 goals in the Premier League last season. The Reds have already spent over £116 million on Florian Wirtz and are willing to spend more than £125 million to land Isak, provided negotiations progress favorably.

Meanwhile, Newcastle has made a £70 million bid for Ekitike, but the deal’s structure doesn’t align with Frankfurt’s expectations. The Magpies aim to strengthen their attacking options and are also interested in adding Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite this, they face hurdles in negotiations and remain committed to improving Isak’s contract, which is currently at £120,000 per week.

Napoli have informed Liverpool that they no longer intend to sign Darwin Nunez

Napoli has officially communicated that they will no longer pursue Nunez, redirecting their efforts toward other targets for the upcoming season.
