Claudia Schiffer’s Husband Buys £450M Premier League Club—Shares One Regret
Brentford Welcomes Hollywood Backing and New Investors
Brentford Football Club is stepping forward in its rapid growth by bringing on two new minority shareholders, including a notable Hollywood connection. Supermodel Claudia Schiffer’s husband, filmmaker Sir Matthew Vaughn, along with philanthropist Gary Lubner, have joined as investors.
This announcement follows reports that Brentford’s majority owner, Matthew Benham, has secured a deal to acquire a minority stake valued at approximately £450 million, reflecting the club’s rising prestige. Benham assumed full control of the Bees in 2012 when they played in League One and has overseen their ascent to the Premier League’s top tier.
Vaughn, renowned for his work on the Kingsman series and films like X-Men: First Class, married Schiffer in 2002. The couple, who have three children together, first met at a dinner party in Los Angeles. Vaughn expressed regret for not investing in Brentford earlier, recalling his first visit to their stadium as a memorable and inspiring experience.
Lubner, former CEO of Belron and founder of the This Day Foundation, cited the club’s values of community and social progress as reasons for his support. He praised Brentford’s impactful community programs, especially through the Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.
Brentford’s current season begins with optimism despite recent changes. Long-time manager Thomas Frank has departed for Tottenham, with Keith Andrews stepping in as head coach. The club has also secured midfielder Jordan Henderson on a two-year contract, though they have sold captain Christian Norgaard to Arsenal and may soon sell Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United.
