Trump Calls for Justice Against Sen. Adam Schiff Over Mortgage Fraud
President Trump Urges Justice for California Senator Over Mortgage Fraud Allegations
In a recent statement, President Donald Trump called for the prosecution of Senator Adam Schiff, accusing him of engaging in mortgage fraud related to his Maryland property. Trump highlighted that a federal housing agency had referred criminal charges to the Department of Justice, signaling a serious investigation into Schiff’s real estate declarations.
Trump alleged that Schiff falsely claimed Maryland as his primary residence to obtain a cheaper mortgage, while he was serving as a Congressman from California, where he was required to reside. According to Trump, the fraud allegedly began with a refinance of Schiff’s Maryland home in 2009 and persisted until the property was officially declared a second residence in 2020.
The allegations stem from a criminal referral from the Federal Housing Finance Agency, overseen by director Bill Pulte, who declined to comment publicly. Notably, the agency previously referred similar issues involving other political figures, including New York Attorney General Letitia James, who was sued over mortgage fraud allegations connected to properties in Brooklyn and Virginia.
Trump emphasized the gravity of mortgage fraud, calling Schiff a “crook” and insisting that he must face legal consequences. A spokesperson for Schiff stated that both of Schiff’s mortgage lenders were fully aware of his congressional service and his use of the properties, asserting that the residences were not intended as vacation homes, and that the allegations are politically motivated.
Schiff, a former House Intelligence Committee chair and prominent critic of Trump, has publicly denied any wrongdoing. He dismissed the allegations as political retaliation, noting that Trump has previously called for his arrest on unrelated charges of treason. Schiff reaffirmed his commitment to accountability and believed that these accusations would not deter his efforts to hold figures accountable.
The controversy underscores ongoing political conflicts surrounding real estate disclosures and investigations into allegations of mortgage fraud among public officials.
