Liverpool Targets Alexander Isak in £120M Deal; Ready Plan B if They Fail

Liverpool Eyes Newcastle’s Alexander Isak in £120 Million Bid, With Backup Plans in Place

Liverpool has reportedly expressed interest in signing Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak for approximately £120 million. The club has communicated its desire to secure the 25-year-old Swedish international, who impressed last season with 23 league goals, second only to Mohamed Salah among Liverpool’s players.

Despite the strong interest, Liverpool has not yet submitted an official bid and is aware of Newcastle’s firm stance that Isak is not for sale. Since arriving from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £60 million, Isak has scored 62 goals in 109 appearances, playing a vital role in Newcastle’s victory in the Carabao Cup—the club’s first major trophy in seven decades.

With Newcastle reluctant to part ways with their star player, Liverpool is considering alternative options, notably Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt. Interestingly, Ekitike is also drawing significant interest from Newcastle, adding a layer of complexity to the transfer situation.

Earlier, Liverpool’s initial £70 million bid for Isak was rejected. The club has already broken the British transfer record with the signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, part of a total summer spend of around £185 million on new players. The focus now turns to their efforts to find a top striker, especially amid ongoing discussions about Darwin Nunez’s possible departure to Napoli or Al-Hilal for approximately £70 million.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has also turned down a £58.6 million offer from Bayern Munich for winger Luis Diaz, valuing him at £86 million and asserting they do not intend to sell this summer. Diaz, whose contract runs until 2027, has attracted interest from several top European clubs, and any sale would significantly impact the club’s transfer strategy.
