Liverpool Ready to Smash British Transfer Record for Isak Amid Newcastle Deal Standoff

Liverpool Eye Record-Breaking Transfer for Alexander Isak Amid Newcastle Uncertainty

Liverpool are actively pursuing a major move for Alexander Isak, potentially set to break their transfer record for the second time this summer. The Premier League champions are prepared to pay upwards of £125 million to bring the Sweden international to Anfield, a fee that would surpass their previous record of £116 million spent on Florian Wirtz.

The Reds have already strengthened their squad with signings from Bayer Leverkusen, including Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, as well as Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez. However, adding Isak would be a significant statement transfer, reflecting their desire to bolster their attacking options after securing their 20th league title.

Newcastle, who currently value Isak at around £120,000 per week, insist he is not for sale. They aim to extend his contract and have had stalled negotiations earlier this year. The Magpies also intend to reinforce their attack by signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, but bids so far, including a reported £70 million offer from Newcastle, have fallen short of Frankfurt’s €100 million (£86 million) asking price.

In their efforts to strengthen the squad, Newcastle faces challenges in negotiations, amid a busy transfer window where they have also agreed to sell Sean Longstaff to Leeds. Meanwhile, Liverpool, interested in Ekitike and others such as Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa, are pursuing multiple targets.

Other Transfer Developments

Liverpool rejected Bayern Munich’s £58.5 million offer for Luis Diaz, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr. The club values Diaz at around £86 million, similar to their valuation of Bruno Fernandes in June. They are also considering offers for Darwin Nunez, whom they signed for a club-record £84 million in 2022; Napoli has proposed £55 million for the striker, but Liverpool aims to recoup approximately £70 million from his sale.

While some deals are progressing, other players like Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton are attracting interest from rival clubs, indicating Liverpool’s plan to reshape their squad in the upcoming weeks.
