Houston Family Honors Camp Mystic Counselor Amid Deadly Texas Flooding
Tragic Flooding Results in Multiple Deaths at Camp Mystic
Authorities have confirmed that 27 individuals, including campers and counselors, lost their lives during severe flooding along the Guadalupe River over the weekend. The exact number of campers versus staff fatalities has not been specified.
The flood, which struck during a period of heavy rainfall, caused extensive damage and prompted emergency rescues. As of now, at least 10 girls and one counselor remain missing from Camp Mystic.
In response to the disaster, officials expressed their heartbreak and ongoing prayers for the affected families. A statement shared by the camp highlighted the community’s sorrow, noting, “Our hearts are broken alongside our families enduring this tragic loss.”
One of the victims, 19-year-old Chloe Childress, served as a camp counselor. Her family issued a heartfelt tribute, describing her as someone whose life was filled with joy, grace, and faith. They shared their shock and grief over her untimely death and requested privacy to mourn.

Recent flooding across Central Texas has been deadly in several counties, including:
- Kerr County: At least 84 deaths, including 28 children
- Travis County: At least seven deaths and significant infrastructure damage
- Burnet County: Four confirmed fatalities
- Williamson County: Two deaths
- Kendall and Tom Green Counties: At least one death each
Emergency crews have rescued over 850 people during the disaster response efforts.
