Elon Musk Disrupts Jeff Bezos’ Ex-Wife, MacKenzie Scott After Dethroning Bezos

Elon Musk Criticizes MacKenzie Scott’s Charitable Giving

Elon Musk and MacKenzie Scott

Elon Musk has publicly criticized MacKenzie Scott for her generous charitable donations, particularly her focus on issues related to race and gender. His comments were made on X, formerly known as Twitter, responding to a user who highlighted Scott’s giving to organizations centered on social issues.

Musk remarked, “Super rich ex-wives who hate their former spouses should be listed among the reasons that Western civilization has declined,” referencing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife. The motive behind Musk’s critique remains unclear, but he has previously expressed opinions on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), often opposing such initiatives.

Previously, in 2022, Musk openly discussed political views, stating he voted Republican and suggesting that the Democratic Party unfairly impacted his companies, Tesla and SpaceX. He also claimed that their progress slowed because Scott was allocating substantial funds to certain charities. In January 2024, Musk responded to a comment about DEI, calling it “just another word for racism” and criticizing its use.

Scott, who has donated over $16 billion since 2019, notably gave $2.1 billion last year. She generally refrains from publicly commenting on her donations beyond her blog posts, through which she often announces her largest grants. In December 2022, she launched a website to share her philanthropic efforts.

In March 2023, Scott announced a funding initiative offering $1 million each to 250 nonprofits. Over 6,300 organizations applied, with winners expected to be announced in early 2024. She has committed to giving away more than half of her wealth, primarily derived from her divorce settlement with Jeff Bezos.
