Champions League Winner’s Son Signs First Pro Deal, 15 Years After Dad’s Treble Victory
Son of Champions League Winner Signs First Professional Contract in the Netherlands
The son of a former Champions League champion has officially signed his first professional contract with a club in the Netherlands. The 18-year-old attacking midfielder started his football journey in the same academy as his renowned father, DHSC, located in Utrecht. He later moved to Utrecht’s youth system, where he has made multiple appearances for the under-19 team during the 2024-25 season.
He will now compete with Jong FC Utrecht, the reserve team of the Eredivisie club, which plays in the Dutch second division. Upon signing, he expressed his excitement: “This is a dream come true. Since joining the FC Utrecht Academy, I’ve worked hard to reach this point. Signing my first professional contract is both a reward and a new beginning. My focus now is on developing further and playing as many matches as possible for Jong Utrecht next season.”
The young player aspires to follow in his father Wesley Sneijder’s footsteps and perhaps even achieve greater heights in European football. Wesley Sneijder, a renowned midfielder, celebrated 15 years since his key role in Inter Milan’s historic treble-winning season under Jose Mourinho, including an assist in the final against Bayern Munich. His career also involved standout periods at Ajax and Real Madrid, and he finished fourth in the 2010 Ballon d’Or rankings, having helped Milan secure multiple trophies.
Wesley Sneijder’s illustrious career included a deep run in the World Cup with the Netherlands, reaching the final in 2010. After playing for Galatasaray, Nice, and Al-Gharafa, he retired in 2019 to work with his son’s current club. Wesley expressed pride in Jessey’s achievements: “I am very proud of you. Starting at 15 with FC Utrecht and signing your first contract after three years shows your perseverance and determination. This is just the beginning.”
