Barcelona Sign Young Star Roony Bardghji, the ‘Swedish Messi’

Barcelona Completes Signing of Youth Sensation Roony Bardghji on Long-Term Contract

The Spanish club has finalized the acquisition of 19-year-old winger Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen for £1.75 million (€2 million). Known as the ‘Swedish Messi,’ Bardghji has signed a four-year deal with Barcelona.

Copenhagen will earn a sell-on fee, along with performance-based bonuses. The winger is set to join Barcelona’s pre-season tour in Asia later this month, where a decision will be made regarding his future—whether he will join the first team, go on loan, or move to Barcelona’s youth squads.

Barcelona praised Bardghji as a promising talent, highlighting his skills, speed, and goal-scoring ability. The deal was possible as his contract with Copenhagen was due to expire in December, allowing Barcelona to acquire him at a reduced price.

Bardghji, born in Kuwait to Syrian parents but with Swedish nationality, has represented Sweden’s Under-21 team ten times. After moving to Sweden, he played for various youth teams, including Malmo’s academy, before joining Copenhagen’s youth setup in 2020.

He made his senior debut for Copenhagen at just 16 years old in November 2021, becoming the club’s youngest ever player. Shortly after, he scored a record-breaking goal in Denmark’s top league as the youngest scorer in history.

His career highlights include winning three Danish league titles and two cups, and scoring a crucial goal against Manchester United in the Champions League at age 17. His progress was briefly interrupted by a serious ACL injury, which sidelined him for ten months, but he returned to make six league appearances last season.
