UC Berkeley Professor Killed in Broad Daylight in Greece
Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a renowned professor at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, was fatally shot by a masked attacker in Greece during a custody hearing for his children. The incident occurred in a suburb of Athens on July 4, when the assailant fired five shots at close range, striking Jeziorski in the chest and neck. He died instantly at the scene.
The suspect, described by witnesses as tall and athletic, escaped on foot and remains at large. Authorities are investigating the motive behind the attack.
Jeziorski, who had been a faculty member at Berkeley for eight years, was in Greece to attend a family court proceeding. His family expressed devastation over his death, and funds are being raised for legal expenses, repatriation, and related costs. His brother highlighted his devotion as a father and his leadership as a scholar in marketing science, data analytics, and industrial organization.
In a statement, the Dean of Berkeley Haas, Jennifer Chatman, called Jeziorski a “beloved” member of the campus community, emphasizing the department’s support for those affected. Colleague Professor Zsolt Katona described him as an outstanding researcher and a kind-hearted individual who loved teaching and mentoring students.
Jeziorski’s academic background included studies at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, University of Arizona, University of Chicago, and Stanford University. He previously taught at Johns Hopkins University and worked as a research intern at Microsoft. His research, published in top journals like Marketing Science and Management Science, focused on quantitative marketing, digital strategies, and antitrust issues.
