Student’s chilling texts: ‘Plan C’ was to k:i:ll a baby
Florida Student Accused of Killing Newborn and Disposing of Body
A 19-year-old college student from Florida is under investigation for allegedly suffocating her newborn daughter shortly after birth and then discarding the body in a trash bin. Authorities reveal that she had previously discussed her desire for a “plan C” in terminating a pregnancy via text messages.
The incident occurred in April last year at a dorm bathroom on the University of Tampa campus. The student reportedly gave birth alone, felt no heartbeat, and later claimed she mistook the scene for menstrual bleeding. The infant’s body was discovered the following night wrapped in a bloody towel inside a trash bag.
In a series of texts from eight months prior, she expressed her preference for ending a pregnancy by killing the baby over other methods like contraception or pills. One message read, “Plan C is my favorite,” indicating her consideration of such an act even before becoming aware of her pregnancy. Her attorney states these messages are being misinterpreted and are part of a broader conversation about birth control and abortion.
The young woman had not known she was pregnant at the time of the birth, according to her lawyer, and the individual she messaged was not the father. She was arrested in Mississippi in October 2024 and awaits trial. Prosecutors allege she intentionally caused death, with a medical examiner finding the baby died from “asphyxia due to compression of the torso with rib fractures” and resulting hemorrhages.
During her examination, a forensic neuropsychologist suggested Moore might have experienced a “cryptic pregnancy,” possibly unaware or in denial of her pregnancy. She was academically successful, having received a $30,000 scholarship and maintained excellent grades since enrolling in August 2023.
If convicted of manslaughter, she faces up to 30 years in prison.
