Newsom and Protesters Confront Vance and Family at Disneyland
Controversy Surrounds Vice President JD Vance’s Visit to Disneyland
This weekend, Vice President JD Vance visited Disneyland with his family, prompting protests from local activists and criticism from political figures. Newsom, the governor of California, posted a message on social media mocking Vance, implying that his policies are damaging families.
An estimated 100 to 150 protesters gathered outside Disneyland’s gates over Friday and Saturday, jeering at Vance and his family during their private outing. Some protesters waved Mexican flags and demonstrated outside the nearby Grand Californian Hotel, where Vance was believed to be staying. The protests appeared to be politically motivated, with local Democrats criticizing the visit, citing frustrations over federal immigration policies, especially following recent ICE raids on farms resulting in multiple arrests and one fatality.
Meanwhile, some local Republican leaders advocated for constructive engagement, encouraging dialogue over protests. Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner expressed the importance of addressing issues like immigration through discussion, rather than resistance.
Vance’s family trip was unaffiliated with political events. They arrived at John Wayne Airport on Friday, after Vance’s wife, Usha, participated in a military outreach event at Camp Pendleton.
Videos circulated on social media showed Vance touring Disneyland with a significant security detail present. This visit attracted media attention amidst ongoing debates over immigration enforcement and political demonstrations in the area.
