Man United Legend to Manage U18s After Working with Ruben Amorim
Manchester United Appoints Darren Fletcher as U18 Head Coach
Manchester United has announced Darren Fletcher will lead the club’s Under-18s team starting this season. Fletcher has begun his new role with immediate effect, overseeing the youth team’s pre-season activities, which included a training camp at Adidas headquarters in Germany.
The 41-year-old former midfielder, who spent two decades at United since joining through the academy, previously worked as a youth coach under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and served as the club’s first-ever technical director until April 2022. He spent last season working closely with first-team manager Ruben Amorim, facilitating the integration of academy players into training sessions and match squads.
Fletcher expressed enthusiasm about his new position, emphasizing his desire to focus on player development. “I am really excited to take on this role and improve my responsibilities by working directly with our young talent,” he stated. “I look forward to supporting them in reaching their full potential and preparing them for top-level careers.”
Having achieved great success during his playing career, including five Premier League titles and a Champions League victory, Fletcher holds a UEFA A coaching license and aims to eventually become a senior manager. His appointment to the Under-18s role is viewed as a significant step in his coaching journey, similar to the path taken by Kieran McKenna, who now manages Ipswich Town.
