Long Island Man Dies in Crash as Responding Cop Car Is Hit
Fatal Car Crash on Long Island and Response-Related Incident
Early Monday morning, a serious traffic accident on Long Island resulted in one death and multiple injuries. The incident began when 56-year-old Anthony Guglielmo, driving a Mini Cooper, collided with a westbound Jeep on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park around 3:45 a.m. The Mini Cooper driver was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Jeep, Stefanie Russo, 37, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to the same hospital.
Following the initial crash, a Suffolk County police car responding to the scene was struck at the intersection of Deer Park and Lake Avenues at 3:51 a.m. A Ford van hit the police vehicle while officers were managing the aftermath of the crash. The responding officer was injured, alongside the driver of the van. Both the officer and the van driver were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the causes of these accidents is ongoing.
