Hibs Sign Record-Breaking Striker Thibault Klidje

The Scottish club Hibernian Football Club has secured the transfer of Thibault Klidje from Swiss side Luzern, setting a new club record. The 24-year-old Togolese international has signed a three-year contract, with the club paying a notable seven-figure fee exceeding £700,000—the highest spent by Hibs on a player since Ulises de la Cruz over two decades ago.

Klidje’s football journey began in Togolese clubs Espoir Tsevie and Gomido before he moved to France to join Bordeaux in 2020. After two seasons, he transferred to Luzern, where he made a significant impact over three years, scoring 12 goals last season as the team finished sixth in the Swiss Super League. His performances attracted attention from several European clubs. Internationally, he has earned 18 caps and scored two goals for Togo.

Hibs’ head coach, David Gray, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, highlighting Klidje’s pace and skill, which he believes will bolster their attacking options.

Sporting director Malky Mackay also expressed excitement, noting the club’s long-term interest in the player. He praised the club’s ambition and thanked the board and the Gordon family for backing the investment.

“Thibault is a young, ambitious player eager to represent Hibs. We welcome him to Easter Road and look forward to seeing him in action,” Mackay said.
