Arsenal Near £69M Deal for Viktor Gyokeres After Negotiation Breakthrough
Arsenal Nears £69 Million Deal for Viktor Gyokeres After Successful Negotiations
Arsenal is close to finalizing a transfer for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, with discussions reaching a critical stage after recent breakthroughs. The 27-year-old Swedish international has scored 54 goals for Sporting last season across all competitions, establishing himself as one of Europe’s most prolific forwards.
The move is valued at approximately £69 million, surpassing Sporting’s previous rejection of a £60 million offer. Gyokeres has agreed to a five-year contract, and both clubs are nearing an agreement. Despite holding three years remaining on his current deal, Gyokeres is unlikely to stay at Sporting long-term, given his desire to return to the Premier League.
Gyokeres transferred from Coventry City to Sporting in 2023 for £20 million and has since netted 97 goals in 102 appearances across two seasons. His goal-scoring prowess has made him a top target for Arsenal, who aim to strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming season, led by manager Mikel Arteta.
This potential signing follows Arsenal’s recent acquisition of midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for £60 million. The 26-year-old Spanish international has signed a five-year contract and secured his move by outperforming rivals like Liverpool and Manchester City.
Arsenal’s summer transfer spree also includes activating Kepa Arrizabalaga’s £5 million release clause from Chelsea and their close pursuit of winger Noni Madueke, whom they aim to sign for around £52 million. Additionally, the club is eyeing other talents such as Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo to bolster their squad for the 2025-26 season.
