Alex Iwobi’s Off-Season Adventure: Walking with Lions in Dubai

Alex Iwobi Balances Football, Passions, and Charitable Work During Off-Season

For footballer Alex Iwobi, living a life beyond the pitch is a core value. His diverse interests include music, fashion, and charity work, all driven by his deep love for football.

During his recent time off, Iwobi traveled extensively, including walking with lions in Dubai and attending Paris Fashion Week. He also enjoys casual football sessions with friends back home in London, where they often play five-a-side matches under pseudonyms to recreate childhood fun.

“Playing with friends reminds me of when I was young,” Iwobi shared. “My mates are competitive but fair—they don’t play dirty. I push myself to be better but avoid reckless challenges.”

Supporting a Cause Through the Project 17 Cup

For the fourth consecutive summer, Iwobi has combined his football passion with his commitment to giving back through the Project 17 Cup. This initiative aims to inspire young players and raise awareness for important issues, including sickle cell disease, in partnership with the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACL T).

One of the main objectives is to promote awareness about sickle cell disease, working closely with the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust to encourage blood and organ donations among Black communities

“Our team decided to support this cause, aiming to raise awareness and give back to the ACLT,” Iwobi explained. “Sickle cell has affected someone close to us, which motivated this year’s focus.”

Community and Future Goals

Reflecting on his recent activities, Iwobi highlighted his dedication to helping others. Last December, he helped feed 100 families in London during Christmas as part of his charity work. He feels a responsibility to leverage his influence for positive change.

Now at Fulham, where his contract extends until 2028, Iwobi describes his team as “brothers,” emphasizing the strong camaraderie. His aspiration is to help the club qualify for European competitions, striving for more success in the upcoming season.

Adventures and Ambitions

During summer, Iwobi shared a video of himself walking with a lion in Dubai, explaining, “I wasn’t scared, though heights are my only fear.” With upcoming European ambitions for Fulham and Nigeria’s quest to win the Africa Cup of Nations, he’ll need to overcome personal fears to achieve greater heights.
