Newcastle Signs Nottingham Forest Star Anthony Elanga in £55m Deal
Newcastle United Signs Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest
Newcastle United has completed the transfer of 23-year-old forward Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for £55 million on a long-term contract. This move marks the club’s first significant signing of the summer under manager Eddie Howe, as they prepare for their return to the Champions League.
Elanga, a Swedish international, had a notable season at Forest, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists, contributing to the team’s European qualification. His pace, energy, and creative ability are expected to bolster Newcastle’s attacking options.
Elanga joins Newcastle United after an impressive spell at Nottingham Forest.
Elanga expressed his enthusiasm about the move, stating, “I’m excited and ready to wear the black and white shirt, fighting for this team, and giving my best for the passionate fans.” He also highlighted his desire to grow further and be part of Newcastle’s promising project, which recently secured a trophy.
He spent two years at Nottingham Forest after transferring from Manchester United in 2023, where he scored 11 goals in 82 appearances. Manchester United is entitled to around 15% of any profit from his sale.
Elanga’s shirt number at Newcastle will be decided during pre-season.
He will team up with fellow Swede Alexander Isak at the club, and counts William Osula, Newcastle’s backup striker, as a close friend. Elanga has also featured for Sweden in 22 matches, scoring four goals.
Elanga’s debut could happen as soon as the upcoming pre-season friendly against Celtic.
Elanga’s arrival comes as Newcastle bids farewell to Callum Wilson, who recently announced his departure after five years at the club, having scored 49 goals. Fans are hopeful Elanga will make an immediate impact as the Magpies look to strengthen their squad further, with targets including a goalkeeper, a center-back, and another forward.
