Hannah Moody, a well-known hiking influencer, was found deceased along a trail in Scottsdale, Arizona, in May. The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed she died from environmental heat exposure, and her death was ruled accidental.
The 31-year-old, who amassed over 40,000 followers on Instagram by sharing her outdoor adventures, was reported missing on May 21st after friends expressed concern when they couldn’t reach her. Her body was discovered the next day near the Gateway trailhead of Scottsdale’s McDowell Sonoran Preserve, approximately a week after she was last seen.
Her mother, Terry Moody, shared her grief publicly, describing the loss as surreal. She stated there were no indications of foul play and speculated that extreme heat was the likely cause, citing Arizona’s harsh weather conditions. Terry also expressed gratitude toward Hannah’s friends and the supportive community that participated in the search efforts.
Authorities confirmed that Hannah’s body was located about 600 feet off the trail, and there were no signs of trauma. They clarified that foul play was not suspected. The medical examiner is expected to determine her exact cause of death.
