Gavin Adcock Apologizes for Beyoncé Comments
Country Singer Sparks Controversy with Comments on Beyoncé’s Album
Gavin Adcock, known for his hit “Last One To Know,” has ignited debate with his recent remarks about Beyoncé’s Grammy-winning album Cowboy Carter. During a concert, he publicly criticized the album, claiming it isn’t “country music” and expressing his disdain with a adamant tone, even suggesting that Beyoncé should be told that “we’re coming for her.”
In a follow-up social media video, Adcock clarified his stance, sharing that while he appreciates Beyoncé’s talent—recalling her impressive Super Bowl Halftime Show—he believes her latest album doesn’t fit within the country genre. He argued that the album “doesn’t sound country, it doesn’t feel country,” and expressed frustration that it remains at the top of the charts simply because Beyoncé is a big name in music.
Adcock’s Apology Isn’t Genuine
On July 3, a brief clip appeared, labeled with a banner reading “Here’s my apology.” In this clip, Adcock, shirtless and in bed, mentions he was dreaming and casually states, “I guess I’m just a hogmog,” before smiling and asserting, “That shit ain’t country.”
“I just wanted to wake up and tell you that shit ain’t country,”
Raising His Profile Amid Controversy
Despite the backlash, Adcock’s provocative statements are increasing his visibility ahead of his album Own Worst Enemy, set to release on August 15. Meanwhile, Beyoncé addressed the controversy publicly, noting that Cowboy Carter was inspired by her feeling unwelcome in the country music scene and clarifying that it is not a country album. Nonetheless, the album has successfully topped Billboard’s Country Albums chart and earned her her first Grammy for Album of the Year.
