Enzo Fernandez Warns Club World Cup Is ‘Very Dangerous’ Ahead of FIFA Summer Tournament

Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez Sounds the Alarm Over Dangerous Conditions at the Club World Cup

Enzo Fernandez has urged FIFA to reconsider the scheduling of next summer’s World Cup in the United States, highlighting the extreme heat as a significant concern. The Chelsea midfielder described the current conditions at the ongoing Club World Cup as “very dangerous” for players and spectators alike.

Recently, Fernandez experienced dizziness during semi-final action against Fluminense, which was played at 3 pm local time at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The final, also scheduled for 3 pm, has raised safety worries, especially given the baking temperatures. While FIFA has not officially announced the kick-off time for the final, it is expected to start around the same time.

Fernandez voiced his concerns during a training session at the New York Red Bulls’ Sports Illustrated Stadium, stating, “Playing in these temperatures is incredibly dangerous. I had to fall to the ground the other day because I felt dizzy. It’s dangerous for the players, the spectators, and the quality of the game.”

The midfielder emphasized the effects of the heat on gameplay, noting that the game feels much slower, which diminishes the overall enjoyment and spectacle. He hopes organizers will adjust the schedule next year to ensure the competition remains lively and engaging for fans worldwide.

Images from the tournament show players battling scorching conditions, with some, like Fernandez, describing the experience as physically taxing. Additionally, Levi Colwill commented on the challenge, suggesting that the game should focus more on ball control rather than turning it into a fast-paced, heat-driven spectacle.

Next summer’s World Cup is set to be hosted partly in the same venues as the Club World Cup, including MetLife Stadium. However, concerns over the heat continue to mount as players and fans alike grapple with the challenging conditions.
