LeAnn Rimes Opens Up About Her Past Affair and Relationship Journey

LeAnn Rimes recently reflected on her previous affair with her current husband, Eddie Cibrian, sharing insights into the emotional challenges she faced when their relationship became public.

At 42, the singer discussed the turmoil she experienced during the scandal and acknowledged the reactions from women who felt hurt by their affair. She explained, “I quickly realized many women had been wounded… I’ve experienced betrayal myself, so I understand that feeling.” Rimes expressed that understanding helped her cease taking the backlash personally, recognizing that some pain wasn’t solely hers to bear and that she was often a target for projection.

“Once I had that realization, things became much easier,” she said, adding she focused on her responsibility to make amends where appropriate and avoid carrying all the emotional burden herself.

The Origin of Their Love

The couple’s romance began in 2008 while filming the Lifetime movie Northern Lights. At that time, Rimes was still married to actor Dean Sheremet, while Cibrian was married to Brandi Glanville. Rumors of their affair emerged in 2009, though Cibrian initially denied any wrongdoing. The truth surfaced when both Rimes and Cibrian separately announced their separations in July 2009.

In August 2009, they publicly confirmed their relationship, with Cibrian filing for divorce from Glanville, with whom he shared two sons, Mason and Jake. Rimes divorced Sheremet later that year. The couple became engaged in December 2010 and married in April 2011, with Rimes becoming stepmother to Cibrian’s children.

Moving On and Forging a Family

Over the years, the women involved have found a way to coexist. Glanville, who has spoken openly about her feelings, even admitted to threatening Rimes upon discovering the affair. Despite past tensions, they have managed to develop a blended family. Glanville attended Christmas celebrations with Rimes, Cibrian, and their children in 2024, with Rimes sharing a heartfelt family photo captioned, “merry everything from our crew! so grateful for all the love in our home 🏠 today! hope everyone has had a peaceful, magical day! now… bring on the sweatpants and a movie 🍿.”
