Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt Mourns 9-Year-Old Relative’s D:ea:th in Texas Flooding
Family Mourning after Child’s Death in Texas Floods
The Hunt family is grieving the loss of a 9-year-old relative due to the severe flooding in Texas. Janie Hunt, who was visiting Camp Mystic during the floodwaters from the Guadalupe River on July 4, tragically lost her life while attending the camp.
Janie was the great-granddaughter of billionaire William Herbert Hunt, brother of Lamar Hunt, founder of the Kansas City Chiefs. Her family, including Clark Hunt, owner of the Chiefs, expressed their heartbreak. Clark’s wife, Tavia Hunt, shared on Instagram about Janie’s death, describing her as a beloved young relative attending her first year at the camp, with her cousins beside her who remained safe.
Tavia Hunt posed a profound question about faith and suffering, questioning how to trust a benevolent, omniscient God in the face of such tragedies, especially affecting children. She reflected on biblical cries of pain and doubt from those whose trust in God is challenged by such events.
The floods have resulted in the death of at least 27 campers and counselors at Camp Mystic, which announced the devastating news on its website. The camp conveyed their sorrow and prayers for the affected families, noting the ongoing search efforts by authorities for those still missing.
Currently, more than 80 lives have been confirmed lost across six Texas counties. Camp officials have emphasized their communication with local authorities and urged continued prayers, respect, and privacy for the grieving families during this tragic time.
