Trump dismisses Musk’s New Political Party

Former President Donald Trump dismissed Elon Musk’s recent announcement to establish a new political party, calling it “ridiculous” and arguing it would only add confusion to the U.S. two-party system. Trump criticized the idea, noting that the Republican Party has been successful and that third parties rarely succeed.

Before departing for Washington from his New Jersey golf club, Trump expressed his doubts about Musk’s plans. He also commented on Musk’s recent spat with him, posting on his social media platform that Musk has been “completely off the rails,” suggesting a falling out over recent political disagreements.

Musk revealed he is forming the “America Party” in response to what he describes as damaging legislative measures, such as a recent tax and spending bill. Musk criticized the bill on social media, questioning the purpose of Dogecoin and lamenting the increased national debt, which critics argue exacerbates the federal deficit. He also stated that his new party aims to challenge Republican lawmakers in next year’s midterm elections who supported the legislation.

Previously, Musk had invested heavily in Trump’s 2024 re-election campaign and was a regular presence in the White House alongside the former president. However, their relationship soured over legislative disputes, particularly regarding a bill that Musk and critics claim will harm the economy. Trump accused Musk of being unhappy because certain green energy credits in the bill were removed, which impacted Tesla.

In addition, Trump questioned the appropriateness of Musk’s close associate Jared Isaacman being considered for NASA administrator due to his prior political support and Musk’s space business ties. Trump withdrew Isaacman’s nomination before a Senate vote, citing unspecified reasons. Trump has also expressed disapproval of Musk’s political stance, especially regarding the green credits that benefit Tesla and SpaceX, threatening to rescind government contracts and subsidies.
