Floating House with Cat Drifts Away in Texas Floods
House Carried Away by Texas Floodwaters in Devastating Flash Flood
A severe flash flood in Texas resulted in at least 43 fatalities in a single county, with an astonishing scene captured on video showing an entire house swept away by the raging waters. The home, which reportedly had a cat trapped inside, was swept into the Guadalupe River and slammed into a bridge, with wild currents carrying debris and uprooted trees.
Witness Gavin Walston recorded a 37-minute video documenting the dramatic event, which began as the floodwaters, known for their rapid rise, surged downstream along Old San Antonio Road. The footage reveals the river swelling swiftly, debris floating and piling up beneath the bridge, and trees being pulled into the current. At one point, Walston narrowly avoided being struck by a falling tree.
The house was hit by a powerful flood wave, which caused it to careen into the Center Point Bridge around 7:40 a.m. on Friday. The crash was so intense that it uprooted a nearby tree in the process, highlighting the violent force of the floodwaters. During the chaos, Walston was heard saying, “Hold on, little buddy,” as he and other observers watched in shock.
The floodwaters inundated an area about 30 miles east of Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian camp housing 750 people. Tragically, at least five campers died, and 22 others remain missing. In all, more than 40 lives have been lost in Kerr County so far due to this natural disaster.
