Tr:um:p’s Disappointment in Putin Over Uncertain Stance

Trump Expresses Frustration Over Ukraine and Russia Situation

Former President Donald Trump voiced disappointment after a recent call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing skepticism that Putin is interested in ending the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump noted, “I don’t think he’s looking to stop,” and lamented that the dialogue was unproductive. He attributed the war primarily to the current U.S. administration, claiming, “It’s Biden’s war, and I got stuck in the middle.”

During the call, Putin reaffirmed Russia’s stance that it will not retreat from its objectives in Ukraine, particularly its gains in the eastern Donbas region. Moscow continues to reject proposed cease-fire plans from Western nations, which Kyiv supports. Trump criticized recent U.S. policies, stating that the U.S. has limited its weapon supplies by halting missile shipments to Ukraine to preserve American stockpiles, contrasting this with what he described as President Biden’s “emptied” reserves.

Despite the lack of progress, Trump emphasized America’s ongoing support for Ukraine, saying, “We’ve given so many weapons, and we’re working with them to help protect their skies.” He also discussed a recent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which they explored potential military aid, including the possibility of sending Patriot missile interceptors.

Zelensky publicly acknowledged Trump’s attention to Ukraine and highlighted their discussions on bolstering air defense cooperation, with plans for Ukraine to work closely with American teams.

Meanwhile, Russia intensified its assault, launching a record-breaking drone and missile attack on Kyiv, injuring at least 23 civilians and causing significant destruction. The Ukrainian emergency services responded rapidly to fires and damage across the city. The ongoing conflict continues to draw bipartisan support in Washington for further sanctions against Moscow, though some in Trump’s team advocate for easing penalties to facilitate peace negotiations.
