Joey Chestnut Wins Nathan’s Hot Dog Contest Again!
Joey Chestnut Reclaims His Title at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest
Joey Chestnut, the renowned competitive eater, has secured his 17th victory at the annual Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest. Returning after a one-year hiatus caused by a sponsorship dispute, the 41-year-old set the crowd’s excitement ablaze as he consumed 70.5 hot dogs, narrowly missing his personal best of 76 from 2021.
Chestnut expressed some disappointment, noting, “I wish I could have eaten a couple more. I’m sorry, guys. My goal was 70 to 77.” Despite this, he vowed to return next year, stating, “I’m just happy I’m here, and happy Fourth of July.”
His comeback was highly anticipated after missing the previous year due to a dispute related to his deal with a plant-based hot dog brand. Enthusiastic fans, many dressed in hot dog hats, cheered wildly as he demolished dozens of hot dogs in his usual rapid-fire style—two at a time, followed by buns.
The event drew a massive crowd, far more interested in seeing Chestnut than the other competitors. Patrick Bertoletti, last year’s champion, was unable to match Chestnut’s performance, finishing with 46.5 hot dogs.
Meanwhile, reigning women’s champion Miki Sudo successfully defended her title with 33 hot dogs, maintaining her undefeated streak at Coney Island. Second place went to Michelle Lesco with 22.75, and third was newcomer Domenica DeRosa with 21.5 hot dogs.
Many spectators, like Susan Solis from New Mexico, traveled just to witness his return, calling him “an icon of July 4th.” Supporters expressed their admiration, with some declaring Chestnut “the king” of the holiday’s tradition, emphasizing his status as a true American hero of competitive eating.
