Chelsea Complete £55 Million Transfer for Jamie Gittens on a Seven-Year Deal
Chelsea have secured the signature of 20-year-old winger Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £55 million. The player has committed to a lengthy seven-year contract, aiming to bolster the team’s attacking options under manager Enzo Maresca for the upcoming season.
Gittens, who has represented England at the Under-21 level in 11 matches, expressed his excitement about the move. He shared on the club’s official website, “It feels great. Joining such a prestigious club as Chelsea is a fantastic opportunity. I look forward to learning from my teammates and giving my all for the club.”
The transfer marks a significant addition to Chelsea’s busy summer transfer window, which has seen several new players arrive. Gittens’s previous experience includes making 107 appearances and scoring 17 goals for Dortmund, having debuted in the Bundesliga in April 2022 against Wolfsburg. Born in England, he spent his youth career at Chelsea’s academy, Reading, and Manchester City before moving to Dortmund in 2020.
Alongside Gittens, Chelsea has signed Joao Pedro from Brighton, Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, as well as Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sar. These signings aim to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
In other team news, Chelsea advanced to the semi-finals of the Club World Cup with a 2-1 victory over Palmeiras. The team will face Fluminense, another Brazilian side, in the semi-final stage.
Gittens, who was born in England and spent part of his early career in Chelsea’s youth ranks, is eager to develop his skills further in the Premier League.
