Zelensky Thanks Supporters After Tr:um:p Call Amid Heavy Russian Bombardment

Ukrainian President Zelensky Thanks US for Military Support Amid Heavy Attacks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his gratitude for ongoing US military assistance after a recent phone call with President Trump. This exchange occurred shortly after Kyiv endured its largest drone attack in the ongoing conflict, with Ukrainian forces combating a barrage of Russian drones and missiles that injured 23 people and resulted in one casualty.

Zelensky highlighted the importance of US aid, which has amounted to approximately $185 billion, enabling Ukraine to defend its sovereignty and protect lives amid persistent Russian aggression. He emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution, noting that their discussions included current military developments, Russian airstrikes, and strategies to bolster air defense capabilities through joint efforts.

He stated, “We are grateful for all the support which helps us safeguard our independence. We support every effort to end the violence and restore a dignified peace.” He further elaborated on their commitment to enhancing air defense systems and exploring joint production within the defense industry.

Following the call, Zelensky noted the importance of a noble peace agreement and acknowledged President Trump’s awareness of Ukraine’s situation, reaffirming their collaboration on air defense and defense industry capabilities. Meanwhile, Trump has been engaging with Russian President Vladimir Putin but expressed pessimism about prospects for peace, stating, “No progress was made.”

As tensions escalate, Russia launched a significant assault on Kyiv, underscoring the ongoing severity of the conflict. The US Pentagon recently announced restrictions on certain weapon shipments to Ukraine, citing low US stockpiles of Patriot missiles and other equipment that could enhance Ukraine’s defenses.

Despite diplomatic efforts, attempts by Trump to influence negotiations between Zelensky and Putin have so far been unsuccessful, with the former emphasizing that sometimes letting the leaders fight it out temporarily might be preferable.
