Tr:um:p Admin Sends 200 Marines to Florida for ICE Deportation Raids
Marines Deployed to Florida to Support ICE Operations
The current administration has announced the deployment of 200 Marines to Florida as part of efforts to assist with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities. These troops will provide logistical support in carrying out interior immigration enforcement missions.
This deployment follows a request from the Department of Homeland Security in May, and is coordinated by the US Northern Command. The Marines will not have direct contact with individuals in ICE custody or be involved in custody operations.
Other military movements are planned for Louisiana and Texas, expanding support for immigration enforcement efforts across the region.
The Marines announced are from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, and their role is to enhance the operational capacity of ICE during this heightened enforcement period.
This deployment follows a prior movement of 700 Marines sent to Los Angeles last month to support efforts amid riots related to ICE activity. The increased military presence has sparked controversy, with some officials criticizing it as an escalation, while others emphasize its logistical necessity.
