Takehiro Tomiyasu Leaves Arsenal After Contract Termination
Takehiro Tomiyasu has parted ways with Arsenal following the club and player’s agreement to terminate his contract. The Japanese defender, who joined the Gunners in 2021 for £19.8 million from Bologna, had been battling injuries for much of his time at the club.
Despite limited playing time last season—just six minutes—the 26-year-old remained a fan favorite. His recent knee surgery in February meant he was expected to be sidelined for at least another five months, as his contract was set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 season. However, the club and player reached a settlement earlier this week, bringing his tenure to an end.
Throughout his stay, Tomiyasu made 84 appearances, scoring two goals and providing six assists. His departure comes amid Arsenal’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their squad, with recent signings including midfielders Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. The club has also expressed interest in reinforcing the defense, with Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera reportedly a top target.
Meanwhile, some players like Kieran Tierney have left for Celtic, and there is speculation about Oleksandr Zinchenko’s future. The club is prioritizing acquiring a new striker, with Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko as leading options.
