Teen TikTok Influencer Shot Dead at Jersey Shore

A teenage TikTok personality was shot and killed on a busy beach in New Jersey hours after sharing a final video from the same location. A juvenile suspect has since been charged with his murder.

Chrystofer A. Whyte, 18, known as hi.imchrys online, was struck at least once while near Pier Village in Long Branch on June 12 just before 9 p.m., according to authorities. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared dead at the scene. Whyte had amassed over 100,000 followers on TikTok and was also a high school athlete.

Authorities arrested a juvenile suspect this week, charging him with murder and weapons possession, though his identity remains undisclosed due to his age. An accomplice, Dwayne Exilus, 18, was also charged with conspiracy to unlawfully possess a weapon and related offenses.

Investigators continue to look into the motive behind the shooting. Friends of Whyte reported that local youths had recently harassed him during TikTok live streams, calling him names, which might have played a role. A friend, Jaiden Roche, suggested that the incident was likely related to egos, though it’s unclear if the suspects knew Whyte or if they were involved in the bullying.

Just hours before the tragedy, Whyte posted two final TikTok videos, one showing him relaxing at the beach where he was later killed.

Following the news, Whyte’s former football coach, Joseph LaSala, expressed his grief, describing him as a lively and respectful young man who brought energy and enthusiasm every day. LaSala reflected on the tragedy, calling it heartbreaking after coaching him for three seasons.
