NYC Subway Tragedy: Straphanger Fatally Hit by Manhattan Train
Woman Fatally Hit by Train After Jumping onto Tracks at Manhattan Station
A 24-year-old woman, previously involved in a serious incident, died after being struck by a train at a Manhattan subway station last month. According to footage and law enforcement sources, the woman—identified as Meanna Torigoe—had entered the tracks at Union Square around 10:20 p.m. on June 16.
Footage shows Torigoe descending a ladder onto the train bed beneath a warning sign instructing passengers to stay off the tracks. Moments later, she was seen rushing back toward the platform just before a northbound L train collided with her. The force of the impact dragged her along the platform, prompting bystanders to quickly move away. She was pronounced dead shortly afterward by emergency responders.
Sources explained that Torigoe accessed the tracks because she needed to urinate, as the station’s restrooms close at 7 p.m. However, she somehow managed to get onto the tracks despite the warning signs.
Following the incident, police stated there was no suspicion of criminal activity. Torigoe had a history linked to a violent incident in 2022, when she and her then-boyfriend were arrested and charged with killing her roommate during a dispute over noise. They faced multiple charges including murder and weapon possession, though charges against her boyfriend, John Delgado, were later dismissed. Torigoe was reportedly on probation related to weapon possession at the time of her death.
