Florida Man Who Killed Family After Wife’s Divorce Request Faces Execution
Scheduled Executions in Florida
A man convicted of murdering his wife and two children in 1994 is scheduled for execution in Florida after receiving a death warrant signed by Governor Ron DeSantis. Edward J. Zakrzewski, II, will face the lethal injection on July 31, marking the ninth execution in the state this year.
In 1996, Zakrzewski confessed to the brutal killings, which included beating his wife with a crowbar and machete, strangling her, and killing their children with a machete in Okaloosa County. He later turned himself into authorities after the case was featured on the television show “Unsolved Mysteries.”
Another upcoming death row inmate, Michael Bernard Bell, 54, is set to be executed on July 15 at Florida State Prison for the murder of two individuals outside a bar. Last week, Florida executed Thomas Lee Gudinas, 51, who was convicted of raping and murdering a woman.
This year, Florida has carried out a total of six executions, compared to just one in the previous year, indicating an increase in the state’s death penalty proceedings.
These events underscore ongoing debates surrounding capital punishment and justice in Florida.
