Napoli President Intervenes in Darwin Nunez Transfer Talks with Liverpool
Napoli President Personally Involved in Darwin Nunez Transfer Negotiations Amid Valuation Dispute
Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has taken a direct role in negotiations to acquire Darwin Nunez, as the Italian club aims to finalize the transfer. Nunez, who joined Liverpool three years ago for a club-record £85 million, is reportedly considering leaving Anfield after receiving limited playing time under manager Arne Slot.
Despite scoring five goals and providing three assists last season, Nunez only started eight league matches, fueling rumors of an exit. Interest from Napoli, Atletico Madrid, and Al-Hilal has emerged, with the player seemingly open to the move.
The negotiations have hit a stumbling block over the transfer fee. Liverpool is reportedly asking for €60 million (£51 million), whereas Napoli is reluctant to offer more than €43 million (£37 million), which is less than half of what Liverpool paid Benfica for him.
As talks pause, Napoli’s president has personally engaged with Fali Ramadani, the deal broker. The club has also considered Lorenzo Lucca, Udinese’s 24-year-old Italy international, as an alternative, with an asking price of at least €40 million (£34 million).
If the transfer goes through, Nunez would join a squad featuring several former Premier League players. Meanwhile, Napoli’s recent Serie A triumph under Antonio Conte highlighted their ambitions, with recent signings like Kevin De Bruyne and potential targets such as Rasmus Hojlund and Trevoh Chalobah bolstering their squad.
